How Firearm Transfers Work

When you purchase a firearm from an online retailer, auction site, out-of-area dealer, or other seller, the firearm generally must be shipped to a licensed Federal Firearms License holder for transfer. Raven Rock Armory can receive the firearm, enter it into our records, and complete the transfer after all required paperwork and background-check requirements are satisfied.

The person completing the transfer must be the actual lawful purchaser. A firearm cannot be transferred to another person unless the transaction is permitted by law and completed through the required process.

What You Need to Do

1. Purchase Your Firearm

Purchase the firearm from the online retailer, auction site, dealer, or lawful seller of your choice.

2. Select Raven Rock Armory

Choose Raven Rock Armory as the receiving FFL during checkout or provide our information directly to the seller.

3. Provide Buyer Information

Ask the seller to include the buyer’s full name, phone number, email address, and order or invoice information with the shipment.

4. Wait for Notification

Wait until Raven Rock Armory confirms that the firearm has arrived, has been processed, and is ready for transfer.

5. Complete the Paperwork

Visit the store with valid government-issued photo identification and complete all required transfer paperwork.

6. Complete the Transfer

After all required paperwork and background-check requirements are completed, the firearm may be transferred to the eligible buyer.

Compliance Focused

Transfers are handled in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

Important Transfer Information

  • Valid government-issued photo identification is required.
  • The name and current address on the identification must meet applicable transfer requirements.
  • The actual lawful purchaser must complete the transfer paperwork.
  • All transfers are subject to federal, state, and local laws.
  • Required background-check procedures must be completed before a firearm can be released.
  • A delayed or denied background-check result does not guarantee a refund of the firearm purchase or transfer fee.
  • Additional storage, return-shipping, handling, or administrative fees may apply when a transfer cannot be completed.
  • Different pricing may apply to multiple firearms, private-party transfers, NFA or Class III items, and unusual circumstances.

Inspect the Firearm Before Transfer

Inspect the firearm before completing the transfer. Confirm the manufacturer, model, caliber, finish, condition, serial-numbered item, and included accessories.

Do not complete the transfer if the firearm is incorrect, visibly damaged, or materially different from what you ordered. Contact the seller and Raven Rock Armory before accepting the firearm.

Once the firearm has been transferred, the sale is generally final. Mechanical or manufacturing concerns discovered after transfer are normally handled through the manufacturer’s warranty or service department.

Before Your Firearm Ships

Before the seller ships the firearm, confirm that Raven Rock Armory has been selected as the receiving FFL and that the shipment will contain enough information to identify the purchaser and order.

Confirm the Receiving FFL

Confirm that the seller is shipping the firearm to Raven Rock Armory and has received any required FFL information.

Include Buyer Details

Ask the seller to include the buyer’s full name, phone number, email address, and applicable order, invoice, or auction information.

Arrival, Processing & Pickup

Carrier delivery confirmation does not necessarily mean the firearm is immediately ready for pickup. Incoming firearms must first be received, inspected, matched to the purchaser, and entered into the required records.

Please wait until Raven Rock Armory contacts you and confirms that the firearm is ready before visiting the store for transfer.

NFA & Class III Transfers

Suppressors and other NFA-regulated products require additional paperwork, approvals, waiting periods, and fees. Contact Raven Rock Armory before arranging an NFA or Class III transfer.

Unclaimed or Untransferable Firearms

Firearms that cannot be transferred, are refused, or remain unclaimed may be subject to storage, handling, return-shipping, or other applicable fees.
