How to Choose the Correct Ammunition Category

Ammunition is not interchangeable simply because two cartridges appear similar. Before purchasing ammunition, verify the exact caliber or gauge specified for the firearm and compare it with the markings and manufacturer information on the ammunition.

Raven Rock Armory currently organizes ammunition for sale into handgun, rifle, shotgun, rimfire, bulk and blank ammunition, along with air-gun ammunition, black-powder accessories and reloading products.

Handgun Ammunition

Handgun Ammo is organized primarily by caliber. The current Raven Rock Armory catalog includes categories such as 9mm, 10mm, .380 ACP, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, .40 S&W, .44 Magnum and .45 ACP, along with additional handgun and specialty cartridges.

After confirming caliber, compare bullet weight, bullet construction, manufacturer specifications and the number of rounds in the package.

Rifle Ammunition

Rifle Ammo covers a broad range of centerfire rifle cartridges. The live catalog currently includes common categories such as .223 Remington, 5.56 NATO, .308 Winchester, .300 Blackout, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6mm ARC, .30-06 Springfield, .30-30 Winchester, 7.62x39mm and many others.

Because rifle cartridges can have similar names while differing significantly in dimensions or specifications, match the cartridge designation exactly to the firearm manufacturer's documentation.

Shotgun Ammunition

Shotgun Ammo is commonly identified by gauge, shell length and load type. Raven Rock Armory currently separates shotgun ammunition into buckshot, slugs, lead shotshell loads and steel shotshell loads.

Check the firearm's gauge and chamber specifications before selecting shotshell ammunition.

Rimfire Ammunition

Rimfire Ammo includes cartridges such as .22 Long Rifle, .22 WMR and .17 HMR, along with additional rimfire categories carried in the current catalog.

Rimfire cartridge names can look similar, so use the exact chamber marking and manufacturer specifications rather than relying on appearance alone.

Bulk Ammunition

Bulk Ammo groups ammunition offered in larger package quantities. When comparing bulk products, check both the exact caliber and the stated round count.

Packaging quantity can vary considerably between products, so compare price and quantity using the product listing rather than assuming every bulk package contains the same number of rounds.

Blank Rounds

Blank Rounds contain no conventional projectile but are still ammunition products that must be used only with compatible equipment and according to manufacturer instructions.

Dummy Rounds & Snap Caps

Dummy Rounds and Snap Caps are inert products rather than live ammunition. They are commonly used for compatible training, function checks and certain maintenance tasks.

Raven Rock Armory currently places these products under its Training section rather than directly under the Ammunition category.

Air Gun Ammunition

Air Gun Ammo covers ammunition intended for compatible air rifles and air pistols. Match projectile caliber and type to the specifications of the individual air gun.

Black Powder Accessories

Black Powder Accessories supports the separate black-powder and muzzleloading side of the Raven Rock Armory catalog.

Because black-powder products and muzzleloading equipment have their own compatibility requirements, follow the firearm and component manufacturer's specifications.

Reloading Equipment & Components

Reloading currently includes brass, bullets, dies, presses, reloading accessories, holders and related components.

Reloading components must be selected according to published component and equipment specifications. Do not substitute components or load data outside established manufacturer guidance.
