Optic accessories support the mounting, positioning, protection, fit, and everyday use of scopes and other sighting systems. Compatibility is especially important because firearm mounting interfaces, scope tube sizes, optic footprints, mount heights, and accessory dimensions vary between products.
Scope Bases
Scope bases attach to compatible firearm receivers and provide the foundation for scope rings or other optic mounts. Options can include firearm-specific bases, Picatinny rails, Weaver-style bases, one-piece rails, and other mounting platforms.
Scope Rings
Scope rings secure a riflescope to a compatible base or rail. Ring diameter must match the scope's main tube, with common sizes including 1 inch, 30mm, and 34mm along with additional sizes used by specific optics.
Scope Mounts
One-piece and cantilever scope mounts combine the mounting system into a single assembly. These designs can simplify installation and provide additional positioning flexibility on compatible rifles and rail systems.
Optic Mounting Plates
Mounting plates and adapters connect compatible red dots, reflex sights, and other optics to firearm-specific interfaces. The plate must match both the firearm mounting system and the footprint or attachment pattern used by the optic.
Scope Covers & Lens Protection
Scope covers help protect lenses and optic housings from dust, moisture, scratches, impact, and everyday wear during transport, storage, and field use. Designs can include flip-up covers, flexible covers, caps, protective housings, and model-specific lens protection.
Scope Sunshades
Scope shades extend beyond the objective area of compatible riflescopes to help reduce stray light and glare in bright conditions. Sunshades are generally model- or size-specific, so compatibility should be verified before purchase.
Choosing Optic Accessories
- Firearm Compatibility: Verify the firearm model, receiver, rail, slide, or mounting interface required by the accessory.
- Optic Compatibility: Match tube diameter, footprint, housing dimensions, screw pattern, and manufacturer specifications.
- Mount Height: Consider optic clearance, cheek position, sight alignment, and compatibility with other mounted equipment.
- Intended Use: Determine whether the accessory is needed for mounting, positioning, protection, glare reduction, storage, transport, or another purpose.
Picatinny & Weaver Interfaces
Picatinny and Weaver-style mounting systems share a similar cross-slot concept but are not dimensionally identical in every respect. Confirm the manufacturer's compatibility information for the exact rail and accessory combination.
Optic Height & Clearance
The combined height of the firearm interface, base, mount, rings, and optic can affect objective clearance, sight picture, cheek position, bolt-handle clearance, charging-handle access, and compatibility with iron sights or other equipment.
Protecting Optics During Storage & Transport
Lens covers, scope coats, protective caps, and compatible accessories can help reduce exposure to dust, fingerprints, moisture, debris, and accidental contact while optics are transported or stored.
Installation & Inspection
Follow firearm, optic, mount, and accessory manufacturer instructions for installation, hardware selection, thread treatment, positioning, and torque. Periodically inspect mounting hardware and protective accessories for looseness, movement, damage, or wear.
